Helping the environment: Huntsville Transit offers free rides to college students and employees

HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville Transit wants college students and staff members to leave the car at home and help the environment by riding an Orbit bus at no charge next week.

The initiative seeks reduce carbon emissions by offering free rides Monday through Friday to those with a valid college ID as the world observes Earth Day on Tuesday.

In addition to the sustainable benefits of decreasing the number of cars on the road, the promotion also spotlights the convenience and efficiency Huntsville Transit offers.

“We are always eager to connect with the public and demonstrate the ease and benefits of using Huntsville Transit,” Director of Parking and Public Transit Quisha Bryant said. “And during this promotion, we also raise environmental awareness.”

Huntsville Transit’s environmental commitment includes the promotion of taking the bus, carpooling, vanpooling, biking and other alternatives to driving alone. The city is also studying the feasibility of adding a bus rapid transit corridor to serve key activity and employment centers along University Drive.
