ATHENS — The Limestone County Full Tummy Project, spearheaded by the Athens Rotary Club, concluded its meal-packing event from April 29 to May 1, providing 1,160 meals for students across seven schools within the Limestone County School district.
This initiative ensures students have enough meals to last through the end of the school year.
The event was a community effort, with significant contributions from Athens High School football players, seniors from the Athens Activity Center, the Birdie Thornton Center, and Full Tummy Project Board members.
“We are incredibly proud of the teamwork and dedication shown by everyone involved,” said Rich Caldwell, Service Projects Chair for the Athens Rotary Club. “The support from our local high school athletes, seniors, and community members was instrumental in achieving our goal.”
The club recognized the Athens Activity Center, Hometown Grocery, The Empty Bowls Project, and Lee and Savannah Hodges for their support. Their contributions made it possible to gather, pack, and deliver the bags of food.
According to Caldwell, the success of the Limestone County Full Tummy Packing event underscores the power of community collaboration and the positive impact that can be achieved when local groups and individuals come together for a common cause.
