NORMAL — The intensity was turned all the way up on The Hill this morning as the Alabama A&M University football team hit the practice field in full gear for the first time this fall.

“Today was the first time we’ve actually had the opportunity to play like it was a game,” Alabama A&M head coach Sam Shade said. “I thought the practice went well for the first day in full gear. We’ve got a lot of new guys who weren’t here in the spring that we get the chance to see in live situations.

“The more we get, the better we are going to be.”

Shade said the team has been coming together and buying into the standard of what him and coaching staff are trying to do.

“It feels great when your players take ownership in the team and trying to hold each other accountable,” he said. “We feel like we got a standard that we want to play to. I am excited to see our players step up and hold each other accountable.”

The Bulldogs will continue fall camp this week with a series of practices, leading into their first scrimmage on Saturday.

“This is the first of two scrimmages we have during Fall Camp,” Shade said. “We want to see the guys execute the offense. We will have officials and treat this scrimmage like a game.”

AAMU kicks off the 2025 campaign Aug. 30 at Arkansas.
