HUNTSVILLE — The Alabama Department of Transportation said highways and roads in much of north Alabama are frozen or have icy patches. Crews are treating the roads but motorists should expect them to remain hazardous, ALDOT said.

Non-essential driving is discouraged in ALDOT’s North Region that includes Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Morgan, Limestone, Madison, Cullman, Marshall, Jackson, Dekalb, Etowah and Cherokee counties.

ALDOT crews worked Sunday night/Monday morning and throughout the day in northwest Alabama counties. Crews went into action in other districts as wintry precipitation progressed eastward and adverse conditions developed. The crews were activated again Tuesday.
