HUNTSVILLE — A cold front Wednesday night could bring showers, and even storms, to the Tennessee Valley, according to the National Weather Service’s Huntsville office.

“Strong to severe storms are possible with the main hazards being hail and damaging wind gusts,” the office said. “The greatest chance for severe storms is northwest Alabama.”

The timing of the cold front may slow down further, resulting in storms arriving later in the evening and perhaps into the overnight hours Wednesday.

Locally heavy rainfall is a concern given the slow movement of the front which could result in flooding and rises along area rivers and streams.

The heavier rain, with totals approaching 2 inches, will be mainly west of I-65, and some flooding is possible. There is a chance of rain later this week which will prolong the flooding impacts, the NWS said.
