Athens firefighters rescue three cats in morning house fire

ATHENS — When the call came out this morning for a house fire, Athens Fire and Rescue C Shift crews responded.

Upon their arrival on Wentworth Drive, the firefighters found three feline victims in the heavy smoke with zero visibility conditions. Answering the 9:48 a.m. call were Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Truck 1 and Battalion 1.

Firefighters found two victims unresponsive; a third was hiding under a bed. The homeowner had attempted to find the pets before the crews arrived.

They resuscitated the two unresponsive cats with high flow oxygen and all three are now safe and sound.
