HUNTSVILLE – Get ready for a sizzling day of mouth-watering chicken wings.

The 16th annual “Battle of the Buffalo” will take place Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. at Big Spring Park in downtown Huntsville. The event is open to the public.

The “Battle of the Buffalo” is the largest chicken wing festival in the Southeast, with all proceeds going to cancer research.

For a single ticket, guests receive 12 chicken wings and a drink. The wings will be cooked by local restaurants and individual teams competing to win the title of “Best Wings in Huntsville.”

The brothers of the Theta Pi Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at the University of Alabama in Huntsville founded “Battle of the Buffalo” in 2008 in honor of their brother, Paul “Fish” Salmon, who died of leukemia. Salmon was a chicken wing lover, providing the way for a family-fun way to honor his legacy.

All proceeds from the event support Clearview Cancer Institute and HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, two organizations that are on the cutting-edge of cancer treatment and research throughout the Tennessee Valley.

Now in its 16th year, the annual event has raised over $400,000 to date.

In addition to the wing festival, the Salmon 5K run will step off Saturday at 9 a.m. in downtown Huntsville.

The daylong festival features food, live music, an inflatable obstacle course and vendors.

Tickets are available for purchase in advance on the website. They can also be purchased at the event.
