HUNTSVILLE — A driver was injured Sunday in a single-car wreck that knocked out electricity to thousands of residents in south Huntsville.
Huntsville Utilities said its Electric Operations crews responded to the outage, which was reported around 6:25 p.m., and discovered the wreck on Triana Boulevard. The crews notified Huntsville Police, Huntsville Fire & Rescue and HEMSI.
The driver was taken to Huntsville Hospital Trauma Services with non-life-threatening injuries, according the HEMSI’s Don Webster.
The wreck, which involved electrical equipment along Triana Boulevard, caused a substation breaker in a south Huntsville substation to open as a safety measure, the utility said.
The breaker also supplies power to two other substations in the area, which is why the outage impacted the area from Bob Wallace Avenue south to Hobbs Road, Huntsville Utilities said.
Power was restored around 7:55 p.m.
