Carlisle, former Decatur PD officer and A&M chief, named interim chief of Decatur PD

DECATUR — A familiar face will be leading the Decatur Police Department on an interim basis … again.

Nadis Carlisle Jr., who served the department for more than 25 years, including as interim chief before retiring in December 2016, was named interim chief today by Mayor Tab Bowling.

Carlisle served as interim chief for a short time in 2016 after then-Chief Ed Taylor’s retirement and Chief Nate Allen taking command in May 2016.

He succeeds Todd Pinion, who resigned last Friday after public criticism in the wake of the police shooting death of Steve Perkins in 2023. Pinion is remaining with the department as a captain.

Carlisle, a Decatur native and graduate of Austin High School, is a former captain and commander of the department’s Criminal Investigations Division.

He was chief of Public Safety at Alabama A&M from 2017-21.
