Chance of strong storms in forecast today

(NWS/Contributed, 256 Today)

HUNTSVILLE — It looks like those April showers aren’t drying out anytime, soon.

And, we’ve got an outside chance at some severe storms on the anniversary when 62 tornadoes ripped through the state killing more than 250 people.

Fortunately, though, the National Weather Service isn’t calling for tornadoes today.

However, the Huntsville office said a few strong to marginally severe storms are possible across the Tennessee Valley this afternoon and into the evening.

There is a better chance for strong/severe storms and higher rainfall totals remains farther south, the office said.

Shower and thunderstorm chances will increase through the day, the office said. There is a possibility of strong to damaging winds, locally heavy rainfall but a low chance for hail and a tornado, mainly for northwest Alabama.
