Huntsville Police Department

HUNTSVILLE — The Huntsville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is about to get a new headquarters.

In an announcement today, HPD said a groundbreaking ceremony for the crime scene investigations facility is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m.

“This project is not just about meeting our current needs; it’s about planning for the future,” Police Chief Kirk Giles said. “With more space and resources, we will be able to expand, grow our team, and continue to enhance our capabilities as the city grows.”

HPD’s Criminal Investigation Division will be housed in a 14,000-square-foot building with labs, office space, evidence processing areas, and vehicle processing bays. The project also includes a separate, climate-controlled 13,500-square-foot facility for vehicle and evidence storage.

Giles, Mayor Tommy Battle, City Administrator John Hamilton, and City Director of General Services Ricky Wilkinson will deliver remarks at the event.

The facility is at 616 Wheeler Avenue.
