HUNTSVILLE — It won’t be hotter than a firecracker this week, but it will sure feel like it.

In fact, the National Weather Service Huntsville office is calling for “dangerous heat” in the forecast for the holiday.

“Dangerous heat will build back in mid to late this week, including the 4th of July holiday as high temperatures soar into the mid-upper 90s and heat indices could exceed 105 degrees,” the office said.

The weekend will likely see increased chances for showers or thunderstorms, especially by Friday and Saturday.

For those who are planning to be outside for the holiday, the weather service urges people take precautions for the heat.

  • Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Limit time outdoors during the heat of the day (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Never leave pets or children in vehicles unattended.
