HUNTSVILLE — As Glenn Frey sang 40 years ago, “The heat is on, oh it’s on the street. The heat is … on.”

And it is on for the next couple days in the Tennessee Valley.

In fact, the National Weather Service Huntsville office warns: Dangerous heat will persist through Friday.

“A Heat Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. this afternoon through 7 p.m. Friday for all of northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee as heat indices are forecast to reach up to 109 degrees,” the weather service said. “Some locations on Thursday (4th of July) may even see heat indices reach between 110-113 degrees.”

There is relief at the end of the week, though.

The weather service is forecasting possible strong storms with heavy downpours and gusty winds the main threats.
