HUNTSVILLE — Del Taco, the second-largest Mexican “quick service restaurant” brand in the U.S., announced a partnership with Sam Abusaleem of Huntsville to bring six Del Taco restaurants to North Alabama, including Huntsville and Madison.

Abusaleem’s GST Food Group owns Marco’s Pizza and Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers in Madison and Decatur. He has owned and operated Huntsville- and Madison-based retail, real estate and restaurant concepts over the past 30 years.

“I am thrilled to become part of the Del Taco franchise team,” said Abusaleem. “My goal has been to bring a fresh, high quality, casual concept to the residents of Northern Alabama and Del Taco is just that.

“I am looking forward to growing my portfolio with such a well-respected brand that believes in the same dedication to its guests and employees as I do.”

Del Taco debuted in Yermo, Calif., in 1964 offering 19-cent tacos, tostadas and fries and 24-cent cheeseburgers. Today, Del Taco is known for its variety of Mexican and American favorites featuring freshly grilled chicken and carne asada steak, fresh house-made guacamole, freshly grated cheddar cheese, slow-cooked beans made from scratch, and signature creamy queso blanco.

Jeff Little, senior vice president of Development for Del Taco, said Abusaleem and his team have exceptional experience when it comes to operating multi-unit concepts.

“Pair that with a passion to see the Del Taco brand succeed in a market that has been untapped, until now,” Little said. “We know they will be an excellent steward of the Del Taco brand and are excited to partner with them to bring fresh Mexican food to Huntsville.”
