Huntsville’s Michelle Abroms Levin, managing partner and shareholder with Huntsville Dentons law firm, was awarded the WomenLEAD Excellence Award in the “Emerging leader” category during Dentons 6th annual International Women’s Day celebration. The award recognizes lawyers, professionals and business service professionals who go the extra mile to aid and advance women in the workplace.

In 2020, Dentons merged with Sirote & Permutt, one of Alabama’s leading law firms based in Huntsville.

Dentons’ Tax Controversy teammates in the Huntsville office nominated Levin for the award. Associate Sarah Green shared her thoughts at the award presentation last week.

“Michelle joined the firm in 2013 as the only female attorney in the Huntsville office and on the tax practice team,” she said. “In 2020 she was elected shareholder and the first female managing partner of the Huntsville office.

“She quickly rose from second chair in high-profile U.S. Tax Court and District Court trials to first chair, leading the team to multiple taxpayer wins in an area of the law where the government does not often lose.

“She has led the charge in several high-profile tax cases, most recently Hewitt v. Commissioner, Oakbrook v. Commissioner, and Goldring v. United States,” Green continued. “She has also negotiated and navigated multi-million-dollar taxpayer wins.”

According to Green, even though Levin is one of the best and most well-known tax controversy attorneys in the nation, it is her work inside the Denton firm that often goes unseen but motivated her nomination and her winning the prestigious award.

“Michelle is intentional to always set aside time to mentor and develop the young attorneys around her. She has single-handedly grown the number of female attorneys in the Huntsville office by 500%.

“Michelle shows what it is to be a true leader, balancing being an attorney, partner, spouse, mother of young twins, managing partner, friend, mentor, and visionary for our team,” Green added. “She mentally shows up every day, and she encourages those around her to give their best efforts.”
