Downtown Oneonta ready to have a ‘fling’

(Oneonta Business Association/Facebook)

ONEONTA — There’s the first day in May, the third Saturday in October and, for Oneonta, it’s the second Saturday in June.

That’s right, the Oneonta Business Association is inviting everyone downtown June 10 for the annual June Fling.

The one-day celebration of fun, arts and crafts, classic cars, great food and more is in its 21st year. Admission is free.

More than 100 booths, a cruise-in for all kinds of vehicles, a kidz fun zone, a chalk walk, live music and entertainment fill the downtown area from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Live music gets underway at 9 a.m. and entertainment includes saxophonist Kevin Moore; 2022 Alabama Female Country Vocalist of the Year nominee Martha Chasteen; The Chris Posey Band featuring renowned singer-songwriter Rock Kilough; Cashback, a Johnny Cash tribute band; Suburban Love Junkies; and The Edmonds Butler Band.

As music fills the air, kids are treated to a variety of activities including mingling with “Star Wars” characters from the Alabama Garrison of the 501st Legion, International “Star Wars” Costuming Organization; inflatables; a petting zoo; face-painting (a $5 donation).

To get everyone hyped before Saturday’s festivities, Jump into Fling takes place June 9 from 7-9 p.m.

The county-western themed affair – at the intersection of 1st Avenue and 3rd Street –  features entertainment from The Sweet Tea Trio. There will also be food trucks and a variety of beer and mixed drinks for purchase. Admission is free.

Festival goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to both events; limited hay bale seating will be provided.
