Dutch treat: Something cold and hot on the way for cool kids

(Dutch Bros. Coffee/Twitter contributed)

HUNTSVILLE – Pretty soon, Huntsville’s next generation of scientists and business leaders may find themselves going dutch … as in Dutch Bros. Coffee.

Rather than hanging out with older entrepreneurs and business associates with their skinny cafe lattes and double espressos at the more expensive coffee establishments, the more Bohemian Generation Z is indulging in Dutch Bros. Coffee concoctions of fancy Mangonada lemonade, hot German chocolate mocha and all kinds of teas, smoothies and cocoa.

“Dutch Bros. Coffee is … more for young hipster kids,” said Coldwell Banker’s A.J. Smith, senior advisor with McLain Commercial Real Estate who brokered several deals with the owner/operator family for the North Alabama territory. “They have a bunch of energy drinks that can get you all hopped on caffeine, and some specialty drinks to make it more fun for younger people.”

Dutch Bros. Coffee will be opening on Beltline Road in Decatur and in Huntsville on University Drive across from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and next door to Chick-fil-A in Hampton Cove.

All three will open in July.

A store in the Shoppes at Redstone Square, just outside Gate 7 of Redstone Arsenal, will be opening in the fall.

Smith said the company will also be expanding into Scottsboro, Florence, Athens, Guntersville, and Cullman.
