Expect daytime delays for paving on US 72 East in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE — Motorists should expect daytime delays on U.S. 72 East in Huntsville due to paving work, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation.

Rogers Group will pave at the U.S. 72 intersections with Shields Road and Moores Mill Road in Huntsville starting today.

Most paving on the $4 million, 6.5-mile resurfacing project from Moores Mill Road to east of the Flint River has taken place at night, ALDOT said.

However, as nighttime temperatures began falling below minimums required for the paving mix, ALDOT allowed work within restricted daytime hours.

The contractor will not begin single-lane closures westbound until after 9 a.m. and will remove eastbound lane closures by 3 p.m. ALDOT and the contractor will monitor traffic and adjust lane closures and work times as needed.
