First heat wave of the summer to broil area this week

HUNTSVILLE — Hot time, summer in the Valley.

We’re just a couple days into summer but the heat will be on high this week.

In fact, as temperatures hit the upper 80s and low 90s today, the National Weather Service Huntsville office is forecasting a “warming trend with high temperatures reaching the mid to upper 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday.”

For today, a heat advisory is in effect through 7 p.m. in northwest Alabama – Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin counties.

Heat indices are forecast to reach around 100-113 degrees over the next couple days, the office said.

There are low chances of showers and storms this afternoon but there are mdium to high chances (30-60%) of showers and storms return by Friday through the weekend, potentially dampening heat concerns a bit (especially by the weekend).

“However,  forecast heat indices still range between 98-103 Friday through Sunday afternoon,” the forecasters said.
