Groundbreaking held for 337,000 square foot FedEx Ground facility in Madison

Local leaders gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new 337,000 square foot FedEx Ground Facility in the city of Madison on Thursday. Madison Mayor Paul Finley said the faculty will provide 123 permanent jobs plus opportunities for seasonal employment.

“We have witnessed growth in all areas of Madison, but specifically economic growth of our industrial sector is paramount for maturing our city. We are thrilled this project is moving forward, and we appreciate FedEx Ground’s commitment to the region,” advised Finley.

The facility on 65 acres near Production Ave and Madison Blvd is expected to bring in $1 million to city and county schools within the first year of operation alone.

Speaking at the groundbreaking Thursday, Madison County chairman Dale Strong said the distribution and logistics facility represents over a $50 million dollar investment and will be able to process 9,600 packages an hour.

“Given the increase in online purchasing and our close proximity to the airport, FedEx Ground made a smart decision to expand its operations in Madison,” she outlined.

The facility is expected to be fully operational in the fall of 2022 according to Madison officials.
