GUNTERSVILLE — Guntersville City Schools will be hosting an opening ceremony for the new Guntersville High School. The grand opening celebration and open house take place at the Guntersville High School Auditorium Sunday at 2 p.m.  

Construction on the new facility at 14227 U.S. 431 began less than two years ago to replace an aging facility that no longer met the needs of the district, according to local leaders. The former high school is more than 50 years old.   

In a statement providing a construction update, Superintendent Jason Barnett said they have worked to make sure everything has been done well and correctly.

“Our new campus is a monumental investment into our students as well as the community and its future,” he wrote.  

The new high school features modern amenities designed to enhance the learning experience including state-of-the-art classrooms, specialized spaces for subjects like science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), as well as fine arts and athletics facilities.

With more than 600 students in grades 9-12, the new high school will accommodate a growing student population.  

Students and faculty will begin the spring semester at the new school when classes resume next Tuesday.
