HUNTSVILLE – A regional Realtors association’s members are turning in their blazers for brooms, baking sheets and wheelbarrows this week to give back to charities in the communities they serve.

The Huntsville Area Association of Realtors is hosting “Realtors in Action Service Week” through Saturday. The annual event has been organized by local Realtors and HAAR staff since 2016.

More than 140 Realtors and HAAR affiliate members are volunteering this week for 15 local organizations that strengthen the community and provide care for the most vulnerable and underserved neighbors.

“Realtors in Action Service Week allows our members to demonstrate our association’s core values of integrity, community involvement, and serving others,” said Kurtis Krueger, CEO of HAAR and ValleyMLS. “We are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and turnout this year as our Realtor family comes together to give back in meaningful ways.”

In previous years, HAAR members have logged more than 500 volunteer hours at these charities. Volunteer tasks include:

  • Preparing and serving meals at local shelters and food banks
  • Cleaning up parks and greenways
  • Delivering meals
  • Facility maintenance and beautification projects at non-profit facilities

Charities participating in Service Week include Meals on Wheels, Manna House, 305 8th Street, Downtown Rescue Mission, Food Bank of North Alabama, Free to Teach, Habitat for Humanity, Humane Society Three Tails Thrift Store, Kids to Love, Lincoln Village, National Children’s Advocacy Center, Shower Up!, Village of Promise, Christmas Charities Year Round, and Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

The ValleyMLS.com coverage area comprises nine counties in North Alabama: Madison, Morgan, Lawrence, Limestone, Dekalb, Etowah, Cherokee, Jackson, & Marshall counties.
