Heroes Week launches with flag-lined welcome at Huntsville International Airport

(Huntsville International Airport contributed)

HUNTSVILLE — “When Johnny (and Janie) comes marching home again, hurrah, hurrah …”

While there won’t be a brass band or troops marching, the Semper Fi Community Task Force is planning a flag-lined welcome to veterans to mark Huntsville’s Heroes Week.

The veterans will arrive Thursday at Huntsville International Airport through a ceremonial flag line organized by Semper Fi. Following the flag line, the veterans will then be escorted by motorcade and law enforcement to their hotel to begin a weekend of festivities.

The public is invited to the welcome and should arrive by 2:45 p.m. at the public waiting lobby on the second floor of the airport, adjacent to the TSA checkpoint area. Participants  are encouraged to wear patriotic colors and bring U.S. flags and welcome signs.

Park only in designated airport parking areas and not in front of the terminal in waiting areas or drop-off lanes. Participants are responsible for their own parking fees.
