HUNTSVILLE — There is an increased confidence in severe storms impacting all of north Alabama and southern middle Tennessee this afternoon and tonight, according to the National Weather Service Huntsville.
Along with a medium to high chance of severe storms, the weather service said the main threats include:
- Damaging wind gusts (medium to high confidence)
- A few tornadoes, some may be strong (medium to high confidence)
- Large hail (medium confidence)
- Localized flooding (low to medium confidence)
The forecasters said a cluster of strong to marginally severe storms will clip southern middle Tennessee and portions of northwest and north central Alabama early this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the timing for the second round has adjusted up an hour or two to account for the potential for supercells redeveloping a little earlier, the weather service said.
The most likely time window of significant severe storms this afternoon and tonight will be 4 p.m. to midnight. Storms may arrive an hour or two earlier, especially in the western areas.
