HUNTSVILLE – The National Recreation and Park Association is carrying on a tradition nearing its fourth decade, and in Huntsville a celebration is planned for Tuesday to mark the occasion.
Mayor Tommy Battle will be joined by Huntsville Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett to proclaim July as Parks and Recreation Month at Kids Space at 1 p.m. and to pay tribute to the city’s quality-of-life commitment. They will provide remarks about the city’s long-term vision for parks and recreation, share project updates and announce details about July’s special events.
Parks and Recreation Month is part of a national initiative, which celebrates the positive impact of parks and recreation. With a theme of “Where You Belong,” the month-long campaign using the hashtag #GoPlayHsv highlights facilities as well as programs for all ages and interests.
The National Recreation and Park Association has supported Park and Recreation Month in July for nearly 40 years to promote building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation. The month is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals — along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers — who maintain local, state and community parks.
