HUNTSVILLE — With a pair of first half goals from Alan Carleton, Huntsville City FC then had to hold off a huge Carolina Core FC comeback en route to a 3-2 win Sunday.
With the win, Huntsville City (10-4-5, 3 SOW) moved into third place in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Standings, just four points behind front-runner behind Red Bull NY II (12-4-4, 2 SOW). The 10th win matches a season-high club’s best total for a season, with eight matches remaining.
In Sunday’s win, the Boys in Blue struck early when Jordan Knight opened the scoring in the 10th minute.
Carleton doubled the lead shortly after, then secured a brace later in the first half with an assist from Christian Koffi.
Carleton has nine goals this season, just behind Koffi who has 10, ranking him seventh in the league in goals. With Carleton ninth in goals, HCFC is one of two clubs with two players in the top 10. Samuel Sarver of North Texas leads MLS NEXT Pro with 15 goals.
Carolina responded with two goals in the second half to cut the deficit, but Huntsville’s defense held firm to secure all three points.
The Boys in Blue host NYCFC II Sunday at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium for “Luau Night.” Kickoff is 6 p.m. and the club’s Countdown to Kickoff discount ticket offer continues: $5 tickets, $4 soft drinks, $3 hot dogs, and 2 for 1 tickets.
