Huntsville City FC returns hoping home proves sweet

HUNTSVILLE – After an offensive eruption that saw four goals scored in two games as the Huntsville City Football Club broke into the 2024 season win column with two straight victories, the offensive drought has again crept in the last two matches.

Sunday, the Boys in Blue lost for the second straight time after those two wins, this one a 2-1 setback on the road to FC Cincinnati 2. Huntsville didn’t score in its previous game, a 4-0 loss at home to Chicago Fire FC II.

The lone goal against Cincinnati, unsurprisingly, was from goal machine Forster Ajago in the second half that accounted for the final tally. Ajago’s sixth goal of the season came on a penalty kick in the 81st minute. Watch Ajago’s goal here.

The loss came after Huntsville acquired forward Jordan Knight from Columbus Crew 2 and recalled defender Nick DePuy from loan with Memphis 901 FC.

Huntsville (2-9-3-0, 9 points) is now last in the Eastern Conference and the overall MLS NEXT Pro 29-team standings.

The Boys in Blue will take on Carolina Core FC (2-7-3-2, 11 points) Friday at 7 p.m. at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium. Tickets can be purchased here

Huntsville defeated Carolina 4-1 at Truist Point for its first win of the season June 1.
