Huntsville Fire & Rescue’s renewed ISO 1 rating reflects elite standing

HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville Fire & Rescue’s ISO 1 rating is a lift for the department and it is also a boost to homeowners.

The department recently had its ISO 1 rating affirmed by the Insurance Services Office, the highest possible score that only about 1% of fire departments across the country have achieved.

The top rating reflects diligent work by HFR and the city to maintain elite training standards and investing in personnel and equipment to ensure the best and quickest response to fires.

In 2024, the city opened its 20th fire station at 13175 Burgreen Road, Madison, to further reduce response times.

“Maintaining an ISO 1 rating is something in which HFR takes tremendous pride,” HFR Chief Howard McFarlen said. “We established the goal several years ago to improve our ISO rating and to consistently receive the top rating is a statement of the city’s support and the dedication to service by everyone at HFR.”

The rating allows residences in the ISO 1 coverage area to be eligible for lower homeowner insurance rates.
