HUNTSVILLE — Hey foster kids, the Huntsville Havoc has your back.
The Havoc is hosting its inaugural More than a Backpack drive, presented by CB&S Bank, benefiting Kids to Love.
This initiative is all about helping foster kids start the school year with confidence by providing them with brand-new backpacks filled with potential.“So many kids in foster care start school without anything that’s truly theirs,” said Sarah Gullatt, Havoc operations coordinator. “When we learned about this campaign, it seems like a no-brainer for us to host a drive.
“Our fans’ generosity always amazes me, so despite this being our off-season, I have no doubt this drive will be a success.”
Donations can be dropped off Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Havoc Front Office in the Von Braun Center. The drive ends July 31.
“While we are focusing on collecting backpacks, specifically, the campaign covers all school supplies,” Gullatt said. “Notebooks, binders, looseleaf paper, pens, pencils, and even scientific calculators can also be brought. We will be delivering all collected backpacks and supplies to Kids to Love on July 31.’
As a thank you, fans can earn 250 Havoc Rewards points per backpack donated. The team will also be handing out Havoc Swag Bags to anyone who donates.
“Every donation makes a difference,’ Gullatt said. “And we’re excited to see how our fans and the community show up for these kids.”
