HUNTSVILLE – Starting Saturday, there will be a new entrance for patients to Huntsville Hospital’s Emergency Room.

The current ER entrance on Madison Street is temporarily closing for the $150 million expansion of the hospital’s Madison Street Tower adjacent to the Emergency Department.

Patients will need to use the visitor parking entrance on Gallatin Street.

Also, St. Clair Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Madison and Gallatin streets. 

Madison Street will remain open in the construction zone, but drivers should expect delays. Signs will be installed throughout the medical district notifying ER traffic to use the Gallatin Street visitor parking entrance. 

The rerouting of ER traffic does not apply to paramedics and other first responders, who will continue to use the hospital’s ambulance bay along Madison Street. 

Huntsville Hospital is adding 154,000 square feet of clinical space to the Madison Street Tower. The project includes 120 new patient rooms, state-of the-art Cardiothoracic and Neuro intensive care units.  

Construction is expected to take about two years.
