HUNTSVILLE — A Hunsville middle school student died from his injuries Tuesday after he was hit by a car while bike riding in South Huntsville.

According to Huntsville Police, Kallel Fox, 13, was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Bailey Cove and Green Mountain roads around 3:30 p.m. He was an eighth-grader at Mountain Gap Middle School.

Police said his injuries were considered life-threatening and he was transported to the hospital, where he died.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was not injured. A member of the Traffic Homicide Unit responded to investigate the crash, which is under investigation.

“We are saddened to share that Kallel Fox, an eighth-grade student at our school, passed away yesterday afternoon,” Principal Heather Bardwell said in an email. “Our hearts and thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who are grieving. We want to ensure that our Grizzly family feels supported during this difficult time. We will have counselors available in the library to speak with students and staff members in need of comfort, guidance, or simply someone to listen.

“We encourage you to speak with your children at home, as they may process grief in different ways and have questions or emotions they need help navigating. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help. The loss of a child is heartbreaking. Please know that we will love and support each other through this situation like only our Grizzly family can.”

Huntsville City Schools’ first day of school was Monday.
