HUNTSVILLE – A Huntsville woman has been arrested in an August traffic crash that killed a 13-year-old boy on his bicycle.

In a news release, Huntsville police said Sara Brianne Oleson, 33, has been charged with reckless murder following an extensive investigation.

Kallel “Kal” Fox, an eighth-grader at Mountain Gap Middle School, was riding his bike after school when he was hit.

“This was an especially heartbreaking case for the family and our community,” HPD Chief Kirk Giles said. “Our Traffic Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit worked tirelessly to examine every detail, and we hope this step brings some measure of progress for the family as the justice process continues.”

Police said the incident happened Aug. 5, around 3:30 p.m., at Bailey Cove Road and Green Mountain Road. Fox, 13, was legally crossing the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle; he did not survive his injuries.

The driver, Oleson, remained on the scene, police said. Investigators recovered evidence from the vehicle, including substances known to cause impairment. Toxicology tests were conducted as part of the comprehensive investigation, which required several months of careful review.

Following the conclusion of the investigation, the Madison County District Attorney’s office presented the case to a grand jury, which returned an indictment charging Oleson with reckless murder.
