Huntsville ranks high as ‘under the radar’ tech market

(CompTIA contributed)

HUNTSVILLE – The tech jobs market powered on into August with strong gains and an historically low unemployment rate with Huntsville listed as an “under the radar” tech market according to analysis by CompTIA, a certification association for the information technology industry and workforce.

Huntsville posted 2,195 jobs in July, an increase of 324 job postings over June. It was part of the technology job market’s continued run of gains that contributed to the strong jobs report for the month of July. The tech jobs unemployment rate fell to 1.7% nationally while tech job postings were up 49% in July.

New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco’s metro markets recorded the largest month-over-month increase in tech jobs, with Huntsville on that same list tucked between Trenton, N.J., and Rochester, N.Y., as an “under the radar” tech city.

Others on the emerging markets list were Lansing, Mich.; Little Rock, Ark; Topeka, Kan., and Oklahoma City.

“The tech jobs market has repeatedly outperformed in the face of real and perceived economic weakness,” said Tim Herbert, chief research officer at CompTIA. “The data confirms that for every layoff announcement there are other employers stepping in to take advantage of tech talent hiring opportunities.”

The Computing Technology Industry Association is an advocate for the $5 trillion global information technology ecosystem, the hub for unlocking the potential of the tech industry and its workforce.
