HUNTSVILLE — As Huntsville grows, so does the demand for services. And among those services is recreation.
To help meet that demand, the city is expanding one of its premier recreational, sporting venues.
The Huntsville Tennis Center at John Hunt Park is about to receive some major upgrades in the form of 10 new hard courts with adequate lighting and also the renovation of six hard courts into clay courts.

Additionally, the project includes a small restroom pavilion to support the courts, additional parking, sidewalks, landscaping, and irrigation. When completed, the Tennis Center will offer 36 soft courts and 10 hard courts for local and tournament play.
“Expanding our tennis center is a game-changer for Huntsville’s dedicated tennis community,” Mayor Tommy Battle said. “This enhancement will allow us to host more tournaments, which is also good for our local economy. We’re committed to supporting and growing the sport in our city.”
The official announcement will be made this afternoon at the facility. Joining Battle will be Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett, District 4 Council Member Bill Kling and Tennis Center Director Joc Simmons.
