Ivey sets special election date for Alabama House District 11

MONTGOMERY Gov. Kay Ivey has set the dates for the Alabama House District 11 special election.

The seat was held by Rep. Randall Shedd, who resigned Feb. 17 to join the office of Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger.

The special primary election is May 13; the special primary runoff, if necessary, is June 10. The special general election Aug. 26.

The deadline for qualifying with major political parties is 5 p.m., March 11. The deadline for independent and minor party candidates is 5 p.m. May 13.

“Rep. Randall Shedd has been an effective leader for the people of District 11, putting his constituents first and working tirelessly to improve their communities” said Ivey. “I was proud to work alongside him, especially to expand broadband access across Alabama, ensuring more families, students and businesses have connectivity.

“As we move forward in filling this seat, I encourage everyone in District 11 to make their voice heard by getting out and voting in this special election.”

House District 11 includes portions of Cullman and Blount counties.
