HUNTSVILLE – There will be some fishy business going on Saturday at the Brahan Spring Park North Lagoon.

It’s the 39th annual Wally Vess Youth Fishing Rodeo.

Anglers ages 6-12 years old will enjoy a morning of free fishing and the chance to win dozens of prizes in a variety of categories, including a brand new bike to the overall fishing rodeo winner.

The fish will be jumping as Buster’s Bait and Tackle and two dozen other community partners will stock the ol’ fishing hole with 250 pounds of catfish just waiting to be reeled in!

Get those fish tales down pat because the free fishing rodeo is exciting for the whole family to watch as the kids try to hook one or more of the 25 mudcats tagged for prizes.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year at Huntsville Parks and Recreation,” said Brahan Spring Community Center Supervisor Bruce Keel. “It’s a relaxing time for the family to spend together, watch a child catch a fish and maybe even take home a new bike.”

All participants must register at Brahan Spring Park between 7 and 8:30 a.m.

The fishing rodeo is 8:30-10:30 a.m., followed by prize and award giveaways.

Children can get help baiting their lines and removing their catch, but they must hook and reel in the fish on their own.

Participants should bring their own chairs, equipment, and bait.
