HUNTSVILLE – If you’re over age 50, have a busy lifestyle, or prefer to hibernate through the winter, here’s a chance to get healthy, Huntsville.

Parks & Recreation is hosting a Healthy Hearts Expo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Mark Russell Recreation Center, 429 Taylor Road. Designed for those ages 50 and older, the free expo offers fitness classes, meal planning sessions and more.

The expo coincides with American Heart Month, which promotes healthy eating habits and exercise as keys to overall heart health. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S. and claims nearly 700,000 lives annually.

“This is an excellent opportunity to maintain or improve heart health through some simple lifestyle adjustments,” said James Gossett, Director of Huntsville Parks & Recreation. “The cold winter weather can often be a detriment to making healthy lifestyle choices, so that’s why we encourage residents to come out and learn how to help keep their heart healthy despite the cold weather.”
