HUNTSVILLE — Bait your hook and join the fun.

The Wally Vess Youth Fishing Rodeo returns June 7, from 7-10 a.m., with plenty of opportunity for reelin’ in a big one.

Held at Brahan Springs Park Lagoon, the fishing rodeo is a popular event for anglers ages 6-12.

Thanks to support from Buster’s Bait and Tackle and more than 20 community partners, the lagoon will be brimming with more than 500 pounds of catfish, including 20 tagged fish worth $100 each and one specially tagged fish worth $1,000.

“This long-standing tradition is more than just a chance to catch fish,” said Huntsville Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett. “It’s a great way for kids to spend time outside, connect and build a little confidence with every cast.”

Fishing begins at 7 a.m. Participants can register online or on site. To claim a tagged fish, anglers must be registered.  Fishing ends at 10 a.m., and awards follow at 10:30 a.m.

While children can receive assistance with baiting their lines and handling their catch, they must independently hook and reel in their fish.

Participants are encouraged to bring chairs, fishing equipment and bait to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all.
