HUNTSVILLE — Motorists should expect delays westbound on University Drive through the weekend as crews repair the overpass at Sparkman Drive.

The Alabama Department of Transportation has closed the outermost lane on U.S. 72/University Drive at Sparkman Drive for bridge repairs.

In addition, the auxiliary lane leading to the Sparkman Drive exit is closed, though the exit remains open.

Both lanes will remain closed for an extended period, at least through the weekend, ALDOT said. Two westbound through lanes and all three eastbound lanes remain open.

ALDOT advises motorists to plan additional travel time and consider using alternate travel routes, such as I-565.
