Madison City Administrator Smith announces campaign for mayor

(Steve Smith contributed)

MADISON – City Administrator Steve Smith, a longtime Madison resident, is launching his campaign for mayor today at City Hall. Smith will announce his candidacy at 11 a.m. City Hall is at 100 Hughes Road.

Mayor Paul Finley is not running for reelection. The municipal election is Aug. 26.

“As Madison’s city administrator, I have worked alongside Mayor Paul Finley to guide  Madison to new heights,” he said in the news release. “As your mayor, I will continue to bring steady leadership to keep Madison moving forward.

“As mayor, I will be focused on solving the issues that matter most to our residents. That  means relieving traffic congestion by securing funding for better roads, supporting our  police and fire departments to keep our neighborhoods safe, and protecting the revenue  our schools rely on. I will put a stop to special interest groups exerting undue influence over  Madison — such as the group responsible for costing the city over $20,000 on a failed election to hire a city manager. Serving the people of Madison will be my only priority.”

A 31-year Madison resident, Smith also served two terms on the City Council, including as president and chair of the Finance Committee.

He was a small business owner, and a communityvolunteer for over 25 years. Smith has served on committees, boards, and PTA groups. He and his wife Mickie have been married for 33 years and are parents of two sons, two daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren. They attend Asbury Church and The Becoming Church.
