Marshall County resurfacing projects near Guntersville to start

GUNTERSVILLE — Contractors are beginning two resurfacing projects near Guntersville, the Alabama Department of Transportation announced.

Weather permitting this week, Vulcan Materials will start resurfacing about seven miles of U.S. 431.

The project extends from the north end of the Veterans Memorial Bridge over the Tennessee River in Guntersville to Cathedral Caverns Highway, south of Grant. The $6.8 million project includes paving with a high-friction surface treatment to help reduce spray and hydroplaning in wet conditions.

A divided four-lane highway with a concrete median barrier. — Work is scheduled to begin Monday, May 12, on the $6.8 million resurfacing project.

Also this month, Rogers Group will start resurfacing more than 10 miles of Alabama 79 in Marshall County. The project extends from U.S. 431 to the Jackson County line. A subcontractor recently installed signs for the project.

Motorists are advised to expect single-lane closures during daylight hours on both routes. ALDOT anticipates completion of both projects this fall.
