MLB draft finds Sparkman grad Causey

HARVEST – Former Sparkman High School and University of Tennessee pitcher A.J. Causey became the latest player from Madison County selected in the Major League Baseball first-year draft, selected 138th overall in the fifth round by the Kansas City Royals.

For Tennessee, he was the second pitcher selected after Drew Beam was previously selected by the Royals in the third round.

In Causey’s lone season in the Southeastern Conference he earned All-America honors, posting a 13-3 record with a 4.83 ERA.
