New Madison school named Russell Branch Elementary
MADISON — Madison’s elementary school under construction in Limestone County now has a name.
The Madison City Board of Education approved Superintendent Dr. Ed Nichol’s recommendation to call it Russell Branch Elementary School. Its mascot will be the Owls.
Nichols said Russell Branch was a popular choice in the district’s online solicitation of names launched last year when the school won approval for construction. Russell Branch is one of the streams (or branches) nearby.
Nichols said another leading recommendation was Madison Branch since the property is 200 Madison Branch Boulevard and is also the name of a tributary along the property. But he said some people felt the system didn’t need another school named Madison and that Midtown Elementary and Mill Creek Elementary also began with the letter M.
Russell Branch Elementary is targeted to open in the 2026-27 school year.
