(Alabama Department of Transportation contributed)

HUNTSVILLE — Motorists eastbound from Huntsville on U.S. 72 could face traffic delays over the next few weeks.

Starting Tuesday, crews will be resurfacing the highway from Moores Mill Road to east of the Flint River, the Alabama Department of Transportation said. They will work nightly 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Thursday.

After this week, shortened by the Labor Day weekend, Rogers Group, the contractor on the $4 million project, will work from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights.

ALDOT advises motorists to expect single-lane closures and possible delays. Approaching the work zone, please reduce speed and prepare to merge.

The project includes milling and resurfacing of about 6.5 miles of U.S. 72 from Moores Mill Road in Huntsville to east of the Flint River.
