PRATTVILLE — An outstanding group of senior adults, including several from North Alabama, were inducted into the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Prattville.
Representing North Alabama as the newest inductees are Dr. Zaheer Khan of Huntsville, Kathy Archer of Priceville, Betty D. Moore of Grant, and Randall Shedd of Baileyton.
DiAnne Callahan of Fort Payne, who works for the DeKalb County Council on Aging; and Billy and Faye Brown of Hanceville, who volunteer every day at the Cullman Senior Center; were recognized with a special award for contributions and service to their communities.
James and Robbie Wigginton of Morgan County were recognized for being married 65 years or longer and a pair of centenarians were recognized – Nell Lane Bradford and Howard Polin, both of Madison County.
“This is the one major event in Alabama each year where individuals are formally honored and recognized for their selfless advocacy and dedication to serving older adults in their community,” said Jean Brown, commissioner of the Alabama Department of Senior Services. “We are proud to celebrate the achievements of the Alabamians selected for the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame awards.”
The Hall of Fame was created by the Alabama Legislature in 1983 to honor and recognize Alabamians aged 60 and older for their outstanding contributions to the lives of older Alabamians.
