HUNTSVILLE – The Alabama School for Cyber Technology & Engineering, the only school of its kind in the United States, is getting ready to expand with a “Sentinel Center.’’
The school, known by the acronym ASCTE, is holding a groundbreaking Friday morning for its Student Activities Center. The school notes in a press release the space will “foster not just academic excellence but also a rich tapestry of extracurricular activities.”
The school has unofficially adopted Sentinels as its nickname.
State Sen. Arthur Orr (R-Decatur), a member of the ASCTE board of directors, told a luncheon crowd this week the school was already a “gemstone” and will “become shinier in the days and years ahead. And this county and the state is going to be very, very proud to have it.”
The SAC will include:
- 1,100-seat purposed gymnasium (basketball and volleyball)
- Dedicated wrestling room
- Fully equipped locker rooms
- Multifunctional office spaces
- Specialized band room
- Archery practice areas
- Spacious mezzanine
- Concessions and more.
“This momentous occasion represents a milestone in the evolution of our school,” ASCTE President Matt Massey said in a statement. “The Student Activities Center embodies our dedication to providing a well-rounded educational experience for our students. It is not just a building; it is a hub where talent will flourish, passions will be nurtured, and friendships will be forged.”
