PTA leader, community advocate Chaundra Jones running for Huntsville School Board

HUNTSVILLE — Longtime PTA Leader and community advocate Chaundra Jones has  qualified for the Huntsville City School Board District 1 which includes most of Northwest Huntsville. 

Jones is running to replace school board member Michelle Watkins who is not seeking re-election. The municipal elections are Aug. 27.

“My life’s passion has been fueled by the unwavering belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, to thrive, and to soar to the highest heights of their potential,” Jones said. “My goal is to provide the leadership and vision for North Huntsville in order to ignite the flames of learning and innovation. As the Huntsville School Board member for District 1, I will work to build bridges through peace and harmony to ensure our children receive a world class education.”

Jones is a licensed social worker for the state. She has served in numerous PTAs in District 1 and is a former president of the Huntsville Council of PTAs. She is the former director of Girls, Inc.; former district director of Girl Scouts of America; and youth coordinator at the Seminole Service Center.

She has also served on the Desegregation Advisory Council. Jones serves on the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and is mentoring chair, National Coalition of 100 Black Women of Greater Huntsville.
