TUSCUMBIA — A $2.5 million resurfacing project will start tonight on U.S. 42/U.S. 72 (Woodward Avenue) in Tuscumbia and Muscle Shoals, the Alabama Department of Transportation announced.

Weather permitting, the contractor, Rogers Group, will close the eastbound outside lane throughout the weekend for deep patching. The contractor anticipates reopening the lane early Monday, according to ALDOT.

Nightly milling to remove the old asphalt surface will begin Sunday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The project includes 3.6 miles of the highway from the intersection of Alabama Highway 20 in Tuscumbia to the intersection of Alabama Highway 187 in Muscle Shoals.

Completion is anticipated this fall.
