HUNTSVILLE — Severe weather is forecast for the Tennessee Valley this afternoon and into the night, according to the National Weather Service’s Huntsville office.

The main window for severe weather is from 3 p.m. to midnight, starting in the Shoals and moving east, the Weather Service said.

There will be two rounds of storms – the first is this afternoon and a “broader, organized line of strong to severe storms” is expected this evening, the Weather Service said.

“As a cold front approaches, clusters of strong to severe storms will develop along and ahead of the front during the afternoon hours,” the Weather Service said. “Additionally, a line of strong to severe storms may develop across western/middle Tennessee and drop southeastward into the Tennessee Valley during the evening/overnight hours.

“Damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall … could lead to localized flooding with a low chance of flash flooding.”
