FLORENCE – Several surgeons from North Alabama Medical Center and Tennessee Valley Surgery Group have partnered to form North Alabama Surgery, a seven-provider group that will serve the region.

Tennessee Valley Surgery physicians Drs. Robert Bailey, Wesley Desselle, and Zachary Griffith will join Drs. Dennis Fernandez, William Adams, and  J. Wilson Mesquita of North Alabama Medical Center in the new practice. Dr. Kristen Reed of the North Alabama Medical Center is joining the group in October.

“The goal of the surgeons of TVSG has always been to provide quality, accessible surgical care to the members of the communities of the Shoals area,” Desselle said. “Partnering with North Alabama Medical Center allows us to achieve this goal in a state-of-the-art medical center equipped with the latest technology and quality staff.

“This partnership also allows us to continue to expand services and physician recruiting so this area will have quality care for years to come.”

North Alabama Medical Center opened its doors in 2018 as the replacement facility for Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. The regional facility has more than 200 physicians on staff, representing more than 42 specialty areas of medicine.

The 263-bed hospital offers the community’s only open-heart surgery site, and complete lines of women’s and children’s services, and medical and imaging services.

North Alabama Medical Center is a certified chest pain center with a team of cardiologists available 24/7 and is recognized as a Primary Stroke Center of Excellence by the American Heart/American Stroke Association. The center’s 24-hour emergency department serves as the primary referral center for major trauma cases in Northwest Alabama.
